چکیده
Context Intermittent rivers make up more than 50% of the world’s rivers. Refuge waterholes in these systems are critical for survival fish populations. Aim This study investigated effect that angling pressure imparts on native within refuge waterholes. Methods Golden perch (Macquaria ambigua) size structure was analysed eight across three catchments northern Murray–Darling Basin. Waterhole characteristics were recorded, with town proximity or remoteness being adopted as a surrogate variable pressure. Key results Remoteness found to be significantly correlated median length, biomass, and proportion legal-sized fish, but not density. Sampling occurred after widespread connective flows, strength predictor length suggests redistribution golden flows minimal. Legal-sized poorly represented length–frequency distributions near-town waterholes, smaller classes well most Conclusion populations near towns face significant pressure, impacts at local level. Implications These findings may have wider implications long-term resilience species.

Timing, Frequency and Environmental Conditions Associated with Mainstem–Tributary Movement by a Lowland River Fish, Golden Perch (Macquaria ambigua)
Tributary and mainstem connections represent important links for the movement of fish and other biota throughout river networks. We investigated the timing, frequency and environmental conditions associated with movements by adult golden perch (Macquaria ambigua) between the mainstem of the mid-Murray River and a tributary, the Goulburn River, in south-eastern Australia, using acoustic telemetr...
متن کاملGenome-wide data delimits multiple climate-determined species ranges in a widespread Australian fish, the golden perch (Macquaria ambigua).
Species range limits often fluctuate in space and time in response to variation in environmental factors and to gradual niche evolution due to changes in adaptive traits. We used genome-wide data to investigate evolutionary divergence and species range limits in a generalist and highly dispersive fish species that shows an unusually wide distribution across arid and semi-arid regions of Austral...

range, yellow perch, Perca flavescens, are viewed variously as a sport fish, a valuable food fish, an important forage species, or a nuisance trash fish with little commercial or sport value. Attitudes toward yellow perch vary with its relative availability and with historical regional preferences. In much of the midwestern and central Atlantic areas of the United States and in central Canada, ...

متن کاملBirdBuggy – Autonomous Mobile Parrot Perch
Most docking methods involving a small robot and a station require the docking station to communicate with the robot. Few robots are able to dock with a passive base station. Even fewer can also be “driven” by a bird. This paper presents a novel way for parrot-guided transportation and autonomous docking using range lights and a web camera.
